Prompt:   Writers often highlight the values of a culture or a society by using characters who are alienated from that culture or society because of gender, race, class, or creed. Explain how the character’s alienation reveals the surrounding society’s assumptions and moral values. The alienation  shown through  Jane Eyre  in this excerpt of Chapter 7 includes how the characters are perceived by their peers and the adults in their lives. One example of this is when Mr. Brocklehurst, the orphanage  supervisor, called out Julia for having curly red hair by saying "' WHAT is that girl with curled hair? Red hair, ma'am, curled--curled all over?' And extending his cane he pointed to the awful object, his hand shaking as he did so ... 'we are not to conform to nature'" (Bronte). Buzz in a Box - 2013 When taking a first glance at this advertisement we can see that it is from the Coca-Cola company, it is a picture of a Pepsi can with a Coca-Cola cape on it, it is set outside on a rock, and it says "Everybody wants to be a hero!" However, as we take a deeper look into this image we see that Pepsi released an advertisement against Coca-Cola with this exact same image, but the words on the ad said "We wish you a scary Halloween!" and this ad by Coca-Cola then came out as a reaction to Pepsi. This shows that there is a rivalry between Coca-Cola and Pepsi, and Coca-Cola believes that they are the better of the two brands. In reference to the seven deadly sins, this shows Pride because Coca-Cola is confident that they are better than their rival, Pepsi. Although that is true, I wanted something more so I could analyze if a name is truly able to define someone. Many of my friends call me "Tina," which is short for Christina, so I thought I would give that a try. One website had a definition that really stuck out to me because there were many aspects that were very true to who I am. It suggested that  I enjoy when things are done the way that I want them to be done. This is very accurate and I am also willing to take a leadership role to do so. Also, I see myself as someone who is affectionate towards others and very cooperative, as the definition stated. Wing Young Huie - 2013  As we take a first glance at this photograph we are able to see an old blue car with a pink blanket over the windshield. This car is sitting next to what looks like the edge of a hill that goes down into a forest with many dying trees. The car is off and sitting on the edge of a dirt road with no other signs of life in sight. When taking a deeper look into this photograph we can infer that there are people in this car who are homeless but they put the blanket over the windshield to block out the sunlight while they attempt to sleep. This car looks like it is many years old and that it has been beat up quite a bit, making it even more apparent that these people do not have enough money to get by. I also am able to interpret this in a way that shows the car on the side of a dirt road with no one around to show that these people wanted to be alone and they went very far away from all other civilization.
